The 13 Minute Butt Kicking Workout

This workout is for those who don’t have an hour a day to dedicate to exercise but need to slim down and burn calories.

Equinox group fitness manager Angela Leigh gives SELF Magazine—and you!—a sneak preview of moves from her new class.

Angela Leigh

How It Works: Just as in Leigh’s class, Stacked, you’ll stack the moves on these slides for the perfect 13-minute workout.

Wanna zap calories? Do the BURN stack.

Feeling flabby? Focus on the FIRM moves. Or go for broke and do both.

Either way: Start with move 1; rest 30 seconds. Do move 1 again, then add move 2; rest. Next, do moves 1, 2 and 3; rest.

See a pattern? Stack to move 6 and you’re done. Moves get progressively harder, so the last one is supposed to be tough. But you only do that sucker once!

ASEA Science – Metabolites (The Movie)

Research conducted by the renowned Human Performance Laboratory at Appalachian State University, validates what ASEA drinkers all around the world already know: ASEA has profound positive benefits to the body. In fact, the research findings were so profound that even the scientists doing the research were astonished by the results.

We blogged about this research over a week ago, but for those of you who prefer to watch the movie rather than read the book, here’s a new video just released where those involved in the research tell the incredible story.

Clinical Trial Shows Athletic Advantage For ASEA Athletes

Study finds that after drinking ASEA for one week, athletes experienced shift in 43 metabolites

Salt Lake City, Utah — ASEA, LLC announces the release of groundbreaking findings at the Experimental Biology 2012 Conference in San Diego of a new study from the Human Performance Laboratory showing increased power output and endurance among competitive athletes.*

David C. NeimanThe study supervised by Dr. David C. Nieman, DrPH, FACSM at the Human Performance Laboratory, Appalachian State University, found that after drinking ASEA athletes experienced massive free-fatty acid mobilization in the blood PRIOR to exercise to a level normally found only after heavy exercise.

“These are very significant findings,” said Nieman. “Our research demonstrated that ASEA is causing mobilization of free-fatty acids PRIOR to exercise, making this source of fuel available at the outset of exercise or competitive performance. This has important implications, especially regarding glycogen sparing, which is something every athlete tries to achieve.”
Glycogen sparing is the use of non-carbohydrates as a source of energy during exercise so that the depletion of muscle glycogen is delayed. When glycogen is spared the body burns fats for energy, making a greater contribution to an athlete’s efforts during the initial stages of a race. This leaves more glycogen for the later stages of racing or exercise, and muscle fatigue will be delayed.

The research found that after drinking ASEA for one week, athletes were experiencing a shift in 43 metabolites.

“We have rarely seen such a drastic difference. For 43 of those signals to change, that is a quarter of the metabolite profile that we are monitoring. It is a huge bump in metabolite shifts that are due to the ingestion of just one product,” said Nieman.

What do these metabolite shifts mean for athletes?

“Athletes actually started the exercise after drinking ASEA with a lot more of these free-fatty acids in their blood. The reason that is important is that the muscles will actually use that as fuel, sparing the muscle glycogen and the use of amino acids which is what we found as we analyzed the data,” said Nieman.

“Every understanding from the literature is that these probably came from the fat stores in the abdominal area,” said Nieman. “So if you drink ASEA we found that the fats go up in the blood. If you’re not exercising, those fats will still be used to support the body’s metabolism for life.”

Simply drinking ASEA for seven days mobilized fuel stores in the body from abdominal fat. For those that want to burn more fat during exercise ASEA is ideal. Even without exercise the freed up fat stores will be used by the body as fuel.

Although this is the first laboratory study of ASEA on athletes, many endurance athletes have been drinking ASEA and noticing improvements in their race times, recovery after racing/training, etc.

James Lawrence, World Record, Most Triathlons 70.3 races, said, “I’ve experienced all these tremendous benefits over the last few years when I’m doing all these world records, and maybe didn’t understand it, but was fearful to go off the product. With this new study it’s really helped me understand why I don’t get sore, and why I’m able to just lock in this strong pace and hold it for so long.”

Cody WaiteCody Waite, professional Xterra triathlete, had this to say about Dr. Nieman’s study. “My thoughts on the study are that I kind of already knew this through my own experience with the product. But at the same time it’s great to have that solid evidence that laboratory test make official. That gives it that official stamp of approval from the scientists and then the stamp of approval from lead athletes.”

Diana Mcmanus Olympic SwimmerDiana MacManus, three-time national swimming champion said, “With ASEA I’ve noticed that my times and my meets have improved significantly. Learning about the research behind ASEA boosts my confidence and reinforces what I already know.” Typically, muscle glycogen is reduced in the body during a single or many groups of energy expenditures. For example, during a single sprint muscle glycogen may deplete by 25% to 30% of the resting levels. Similarly, at the end of longer durations (60 to 90 minutes) of high, moderate and low exercise muscle, glycogen will be dramatically reduced or depleted.

The study included 20 fit athletes in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-based, cross-over study. After baseline testing for VO2Max and body composition, one-half of the athletes drank four ounces of ASEA each day for seven days. The other one-half of the athletes drank four ounces of a placebo for seven days. Then all athletes completed a 75-km cycling trial, with blood drawn prior to the trial, immediately after the trial and one hour after the trial.

After a “washout” period in which none of the athletes drank ASEA or the placebo, a seven day cross-over study was conducted. The original ASEA group drank the placebo and the original placebo group drank ASEA for a seven day period. Then all athletes completed a second 75-km cycling trial, with blood drawn prior to the trial, immediately after the trial and one hour after the trial.

The research demonstrated that drinking ASEA taps into the body’s largest energy reserves, freeing fatty acids from adipose tissue, BEFORE exercise or athletic competition.

“This unexpected mobilization of fatty acids in theory will lead to better endurance in athletes, assisting athletes to maintain a certain pace for longer periods of time,” said Nieman.

The research found that the release of fatty acids is coming from fatty adipose tissue, the body’s source of abundant, available energy. Adipose tissue is fat stored around the organs of the body, with the most common and largest fat store being the abdominal area. Adipose tissue triglycerides represent the largest energy reserve in the human body. Utilizing these stores is critical for prolonged endurance exercise.

The study also demonstrated that the athletes in the study experienced a massive increase in blood levels of ascorbic acid (vitamin C) after exercise. This could indicate less oxidative stress on muscles. Further research is being conducted to determine the implications of this increase.

“This study is the latest in ASEA’s commitment to ongoing research. The frontiers of redox signaling molecules and ASEA are constantly being pushed. This latest study is not a destination, but an on-ramp,” said Verdis Norton, Chief Executive Officer at ASEA.

ASEA and Redox Signaling Molecules

ASEA, with its Redox Signaling technology, is a powerful new drink that helps both competitive and recreational athletes step up their game to new levels of performance.

ASEA is the original and only Redox Signaling product available today. It provides the body with two perfectly balanced sets of reactive molecules — the same molecules produced naturally by the mitochondria in every cell of the body. These vitally important molecules support the production of the ATP energy that fuels our cells, help activate antioxidants, minimize cellular damage, enhance cellular communication, and speed the healing response — all functions critical to athletic performance, endurance and recovery.

Redox Signaling is a burgeoning scientific field on a global scale with an impressive array of recent research advances. Only recently have ASEA scientists been able to produce stable mixtures of these Redox Signaling molecules outside living cells.

ASEA and its foundational technology are completely protected by U.S. patents  5,334,383;  5,507,932;  5,674,537;  5,731,008;  6,007,6866,117,285.

Why Exercise Works

Guest Post by David Haas

Why Exercise works

Why Exercise WorksBuilding lean muscle and getting the heart pumping blood to your entire body are just a couple of the most commonly known benefits of exercise. Being in good physical and mental shape is even more crucial when you are dealing with a disease that has taken so many lives. For the person dealing with a cancer diagnosis, such as mesothelioma, getting regular exercise has the potential to help in a plethora of ways.

Below is a list of some of the benefits that come with regular exercise:

Reducing your stress – With as little as 30 minutes of activity per day, you can see an increase in serotonin and dopamine levels. These are chemicals that will help to sooth and calm you. There can be no doubting that having cancer can cause stress, exercising is a natural way to alleviate that stress. Those “feel good” chemicals provide an atmosphere where stress won’t be able to flourish so easily.

Naturally lift depression – Exercise has often been referred to as a natural antidepressant. If you are person who finds yourself fighting depression and is having trouble keeping your spirits up, being active can help without any medication. When you already have to take medicine to treat your cancer, regular exercise is a good way to fight off depression without needing to take any
additional medication.

Keeps your body strong – As your doctor works hard to kill the cancer attacking your body, staying active through exercise is a great way to work on offsetting the damage being done to your body. Exercise works to keep the body as well as the mind strong. You can build lean muscle, increase the oxygen levels in your blood and improve your memory; it will help you to put the focus on remaining strong in the body and mind – something you need when you’re waging a war against cancer.

Imagine waking up one day knowing you have to receive mesothelioma treatment before that day ends. There is nothing you can do about the cancer or that you must deal with whatever side effects come with receiving such treatment. Now imagine starting that same day out by going for a brisk walk in your neighborhood; you walk for 30 minutes working up a sweat and admiring the beauty of nature. At the end of the exercise session, how much better prepared do you think you’d be for your mesothelioma treatment? Probably a lot!

Making a commitment to take care of your body when you are diagnosed with cancer is about more than just keeping fit. This is about doing what you can to increase your quality of life, even when that life includes a fight with cancer. Your energy will levels with rise, your attitude will become more positive and you can feel good about doing your part to live a happy and healthy life for many more years to come.

ASEA Reviewed by Inside Lacrosse Magazine

ASEA has been getting noticed by the sports world and athletes from all sports for its ability to enhance endurance, performance, and recovery.  It’s been reviewed by Road Bike Action Magazine and Bicycle.net and now another prominent national publication is giving good marks to ASEA.

John Jiloty and Ryan Rabidou of Inside Lacrosse Magazine reviewed ASEA in their May issue. And no big surprise, they had some truly awesome things to say! Their review is based on taste, delivery, and performance.

“I have become strangely addicted to it. People around the office give me a hard time when I break out my ASEA spray bottle before an intense editorial meeting.” – Ryan Rabidou

And we know what he’s talking about! ASEA is helping people be their best selves no matter what activity they are performing. It’s no secret that ASEA is a super shield when it comes to athletics.

“Post workout is where ASEA shines. I was rarely sore the next day after taking it (soccer, running, weight training), when I normally would have been. Definitely effective for muscle recovery.” – John Jiloty

“The next day I didn’t feel nearly as sore, especially after climbing.” – Ryan Rabidou

ASEA is really getting out there and everyone is starting to take notice! In fact, in a conversation earlier this week with the editor of another fitness magazine, Bruce Call, VP Marketing & Events, was told that there are athletes from many different arenas that are catching the ASEA buzz and spreading the word! ASEA is a truly unique product and it is doing powerful things.

VO2max Testing: What it is and Why an Athlete Should Know.

VO2max, or maximal oxygen uptake, is one factor that can determine an athlete’s capacity to perform sustained exercise and is linked to aerobic endurance. VO2 max refers to the maximum amount of oxygen that an individual can utilize during intense or maximal exercise. It is measured as “milliliters of oxygen used in one minute per kilogram of body weight.”

This measurement is generally considered the best indicator of an athlete’s cardiovascular fitness and aerobic endurance. Theoretically, the more oxygen you can use during high level exercise, the more ATP (energy) you can produce. This is often the case with elite endurance athletes who typically have very high VO2 max values.

As an athlete increases his or her exercise intensity oxygen consumption rises.  This continues to a specific point where it plateaus.  This plateau is the VO2 Max and is a point where it becomes painful for the athlete to continue and isn’t long before muscle fatigue forces the individual to stop.

This test has become a valuable indicator of how far a person can push him or herself before the body says, “No more!”

Research has shown that athletes, through intense and lengthy training can increase their VO2 max, however elite athletes find it difficult to gain more than a 1 or 2 percent increase through this type of training due to the fact that they are already in peak condition.  At this point genetics may play a greater role in determining who crosses the finish line first or second.  Athletes have even resorted to using performance enhancing drugs to gain that edge, but such methods result in only minimal gains still of 2 to 4 percent.

It was this test that shined a bright light on ASEA™, which did a pilot study with 17 athletes to determine the effect of supplementation with ASEA™ on athletic performance.  The test results were beyond anyone’s wildest imagination. The study’s concluded that ingestion of the test supplement, ASEA™, for 7-10 days prior to and immediately before a VO2max test, was shown to significantly increase the time it took for participants to reach VO2max under equivalent carefully regulated power ramp-up conditions. Time to VT likewise was significantly extended on average by 10%.

Ten percent!  That kind of increase is what helped Jonathan Hollar, Ironman triathlete, who added ASEA to his training regimen before a major Olympic duathlon race blow away his previous time. “The last time I completed an Olympic duathlon my finish time was 2:55:00. This time it was 2:08:55! I came in second place overall. In previous races [prior to using ASEA™] I never broke the top 100!

Athletes everywhere are getting these kinds of performance increases, with a product that has been thoroughly tested and found free of banned substances. What could ASEA do for you?

Redox Signaling Powers Up Aerobic Performance

As the energy requirements of the cells and tissues increase during aerobic activity, oxygen and sugars in the blood must be able to be transferred from the lungs and energy stores into the muscle cells and tissues. Waste products like CO2 and excess lactates must be transferred out of the cells and tissues and back into the blood and out of the body. The efficiency at which the cells can move oxgen fuel and waste products back and forth through the blood and cellular membranes determines how long the body can sustain aerobic activity.

When the oxygen and energy demands of the muscle tissues exceed the ability of the body to maintain adequate delivery, the muscle cells and tissues start to burn internal energy stores anaerobically (without the use of oxygen), waste products (CO2 and lactates) start to build up and further interfere with the aerobic processes. When the internal energy stores of the muscle cells are exhausted, no more energy can be provided and muscle activity ceases completely.

Increasing the amount of balanced redox signaling molecules in the body helps normalize the redox potential in and around the cells and tissues. A balanced redox potential in the tissues increases the efficiency at which oxygen, fuels and wastes can be transferred in and out of cells and tissues, making the natural aerobic processes more efficient. If aerobic capacities are increased, then the natural length of time that aerobic activity can be sustained under high energy demands is also increased. The time that it takes to recover normal aerobic balance after an intense anaerobic effort is also shortened.

Men’s Fitness Magazine “Fittest Guy in the World”

Awarded the title of one of 2009′s “25 Fittest Guys in the World” by Men’s Fitness Magazine, Rich is a plant-based nutrition advocate, entertainment attorney, writer and family man. But most of all, he is a passionate elite ultra-distance endurance athlete.

Some time ago, Rich was  introduced to ASEA by a friend.  You can see more at Rich’s Personal Website.

This is his story in his words.

“About a year and half ago, my friend Timothy Harrington started bugging me, doing his best to convince me to try this new product he was involved with called ASEA.

“Sorry buddy. Never heard of it. Not interested.” I politely replied, rejecting the offer.

“Just take a look. Studies on athletes have shown that it can significantly increase aerobic capacity in endurance athletes and decrease recovery time between workouts. I think this could really benefit you.”

Whatever. I’ve heard it many times before, and I’ll hear it again, I’m sure. Just another new product hitting the market making claims it simply can’t support. Anyone who knows me knows that I am incredibly particular about my nutrition – an intense pickiness that extends beyond my whole food plant-based diet to the supplements I choose to incorporate into my daily routine. In fact, I do my best to keep my dietary supplements down to a bare minimum – only taking into my body that which is absolutely required to ensure my system gets what it needs; what I might have overlooked due to dietary restrictions; or what I may need to enhance recovery due to heavy training. And the supplements I do use are generally organic and plant-based as opposed to chemical in composition — things like EFA Oil, plant-based protein powders, Chlorophyll, spirulina, and L-Glutamine. But that’s pretty much it, other than the plant-based recovery elixir I have been developing with Ascended Health. So I can’t say I was exactly open to trying a new product I not only had never heard of, but whose only active ingredient was also something I had never heard of – redox signaling molecules.

What is Redox Signaling?

I’m not a doctor. But I was pre-med for two years at Stanford, where I studied human biology and organic chemistry. And so to a limited degree, I know a few things. But redox signaling molecules? What the heck is that? I chalked it up to creative marketing, cryptically dressing up what clearly was nothing more than the latest snake oil with some half-baked scientific labeling mumbo-jumbo. Tim’s a nice guy, but I wasn’t buying. Thanks but no thanks.

But Tim persisted. Just try it, he urged, following up by sending me a litany of research materials and scientific studies performed by disinterested third parties on the science behind redox signaling and reactive molecules. I read them all, then did my own research. Its very complex stuff, indeed. But I’ll do my best to explain what I learned in the most simplistic of terms.

Let’s start at the beginning. The human body is made up of somewhere in the range of 100 trillion cells. Within each cell are mitochondria, which are responsible for the creation of energy by way of what is called the Krebs Cycle. This process entails the conversion of glucose to ATP. The byproducts of the Krebs Cycle along the Electron Transport Chain are what are known as redox signaling molecules (“RSM”). Originally, scientists perceived these byproducts as metabolic waste – oxidants and reductants that must be purged from the cell in order to remain healthy. However, current research suggests otherwise. That in fact a proper homeostatic balance of oxidants and reductants is absolutely necessary for maintaining cellular health, including virtually all of the functions of the immune system and tissue regeneration response. In the most simplistic terms, they provide a means by which cells participate in intra- and inter-cellular damage-control communications, activation of antioxidants, cellular protection and defense against toxins and free radicals, and in the healing response. The human body is constantly working to maintain cellular health by balancing these redox signaling molecules to rid the body of harmful components and to clean up the oxidative stress and free radical damage that occurs at the cellular level, while simultaneously ensuring the cell’s ability to maintain proper communication with its environment. When these reactive molecules are in the proper balance, the immune system and healing process function at their optimal level.

Virtually all disease and bodily challenges are caused by what is called oxidative stress – an increasingly salient reality of living in modern times attributable to a wide variety of factors, including sun damage, excessive exercise, electromagnetic radiation, food additives and preservatives, x-ray radiation, prescription drugs, heavy metals, stress, anxiety, air & water pollution, lack of sleep, and toxic industrialized chemicals to name a few. These factors cause our cells to produce an excess of oxidants in comparison to reductants – thus throwing off the cell’s homeostatic balance of RSMs and promoting the proliferation of harmful free radicals. But this imbalance is how the cell detects damage and is signaled to repair itself. The immune system is summoned, prompting repair, or replacement of the cell via mitosis (cell division) of a neighboring healthy cell. Without this excess of oxidants indicating oxidative stress, the cell wouldn’t know to reach out for restorative help. Too many oxidants leads to a proliferation of damaged cells. But too few oxidants impairs the cell’s ability to signal an immune response and to repair damage. Therefore, balance – homeostasis – is key.

However, chronic oxidative stress leads to a proliferation of free radicals that unless neutralized, lead to cell damage that will continue to worsen – damaging the cell walls, vessel walls, proteins, fats and even the DNA nucleus of our cells — until the cell can no longer properly function. The result advances the aging of tissues, leading to poor health and the potentiality for degenerative disease.

It is for this reason that we are constantly inundated with the health benefits of anti-oxidants. The idea is that these molecules combat the proliferation of free radicals in an effort to bring the cell back to healthy homeostasis. But herein lies the rub. First, most antioxidant supplements are molecules far too large to pass through the cell wall, averaging about 200 atoms in diameter. Therefore, most (some scientists estimate about 90%) are denied entry to the place where they are needed most – inside the cell where the free radicals are found. Second, one anti-oxidant molecule is empowered to combat one free radical molecule before becoming essentially inert. It is thus a 1:1 ratio. However, the body generally harbors about 100 sextillion free radicals a day. That’s a heck of a lot! Due to this restrictive 1:1 ratio, scientific studies show that your body can’t possibly ingest enough antioxidants to eliminate the number of free radicals your body makes every day. For example, you would have to eat 32 pounds of strawberries, 31 pounds of raspberries, AND 15 pounds of dark chocolate per day to achieve the antioxidant power that it would take to eliminate the free radicals that are created naturally in the body.

ASEA

This is where ASEA comes in – as the first and only RSM supplement. As stated above, stable RSMs are central to the body’s healing mechanisms, mediating multiple cellular defense, repair & replacement signaling pathways. ASEA purports to have determined a completely stable, balanced, bio-available and entirely non-toxic formula of RSMs native to the body that can effectively penetrate the cell wall (unlike most anti-oxidant supplements), efficiently combat free radicals, stimulate the body’s production of its own anti-oxidant defenses, and stabilize the proper homeostasis of oxidants to reductants to optimize cellular communication, repair, and replacement, thus enhancing the body’s ability to properly function, recover, and simply work as designed.

Moreover, independent studies show that ASEA when in contact with living cells increased the efficiency of some of our body’s most important native antioxidants inside living cells – such as glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase (SOD) — more than 500%. In other words, ASEA is purported to significantly stimulate the cell’s own production of the master antioxidants inside the cells without causing an inflammatory immune system response. What does this mean? It means that the body becomes empowered to neutralize approximately 70,000,000 free radicals per second — the rate at which native Glutathione Peroxidase is able to process oxidative free radicals. Quite an improvement over the results that can be achieved by a diet rich in anti-oxidants.

But let me be clear on one point that is likely on your mind. ASEA is not a vitamin, mineral, juice, or antioxidant. And yet it is not a drug either, having received the clean certificates of analysis required by the UCI, the organization that coordinates and monitors doping in cycling. There is nothing in ASEA that could possibly be classified as a banned substance. Period. Again, ASEA is entirely non-toxic and native to the body. In fact, it doesn’t force the body to do anything it wouldn’t ordinarily do. It’s not a cure to anything, and is not a replacement for proper nutrition. It merely enhances the body’s innate ability to repair itself. The company describes the product as follows:

“ASEA is the world’s first and only Redox Signaling Molecular Supplement based on over 16 years of scientific research, 23 patents and approximately $17 million in research. ASEA is a proprietary blend of naturally occurring reactive molecules in a salt-water solution derived from a patented redox balanced process. This unique patented electro-chemical process rearranges the salt-water solution constituent components into a beneficial mixture that is critical to proper balanced cellular chemistry in the body…enabling the immune system to function at its optimal level. The ASEA salt-water solution is the same solution found in every cell in the human body.”

The purported benefits of ASEA extend to athletic performance. ASEA studies on athletes demonstrate:

* An increase in athletic endurance, as measured by time to ventilatory threshold and time to VO2max , by more than 10% on average;
* A 10% increase in the athlete’s ability to sustain maximum threshold
* A reduction in heart rate in some cases, evidencing an increase in aerobic capacity;
* A reduction in soreness, inflammation and recovery time; and
* An increase in lactate flushing by 5-10%.

Granted, these are studies conducted by ASEA. So it’s not surprising that the findings were positive. Additional double-blind studies on ASEA’s effects on athletic performance are currently in motion under the authority of highly reputable third party laboratories, so I anxiously await those results.

Fine. All well and good on paper. At least enough to convince me to give it a try. So about a year ago – a short while before ASEA was even officially introduced to the marketplace — I relented and Tim sent me a crate of the stuff. At first taste, I have to say I was not impressed. The stuff tastes like pool water. But I agreed to give it an honest go, my expectations limited at best. 4 ounces twice a day. Bear in mind that my first-hand findings are hardly scientific – purely anecdotal in fact. Not a variable-free double-blind study by any stretch. But I have to say that I did find that my training kicked into high gear. I was recovering rapidly between workouts, despite a very heavy load averaging around 20-25 hours per week, particularly in the lead up to EPIC5. I did not get sick, injured or overly fatigued. I just got stronger. My power on the bike continued to escalate, and I did not experience the weariness I had suffered this same month of training the year prior. To double check, I went through my training logs from the previous season and evaluated where I stood in comparison. To be certain, I understand that there are other factors at play – having only been competing in endurance sports for a few years, it is to be expected that I would continue to improve, particularly as I learned more about how to perfect my nutrition. But the gains exceeded what I anticipated, and this was reflected in my periodic lactate tests, which give me an accurate window into my true physical condition.

And so I continued to use the product. I trained for EPIC5 on ASEA. And have been using it consistently ever since. I realize there will be naysayers and doubters out there. I don’t blame you. I was definitely one of them. But I do believe that I am realizing tangible performance gains as a result of consistent use, most noticeably in my ability to recover between workouts.

Despite my inner conviction of the benefits of the product, I remained reluctant to speak publicly about my experience until I could better understand the science behind ASEA. So I reached out to the company’s higher-ups, and recently flew out to their corporate HQ in Salt Lake City to learn more. Despite the gains I knew I had reaped by using the product, I still had many doubts. But I spent several hours meeting with Dr. Gary Samuelson, the scientific mind behind ASEA. A PhD in Atomic/Medical Physics from the University of Utah with a specialization in the emerging field of redox signaling science, Gary patiently walked me through the biochemistry and the research conducted in the field, with respect to ASEA and the field of research in general. I was impressed, leaving my meeting with Dr. Samuelson even more satisfied that my anecdotal findings are indeed on par with the scientific underpinnings of the product. If you are interested in learning more about Dr. Samuelson’s perspective on redox signaling, you can read his book, The Science of Healing Revealed—New Insights into Redox Signaling.

But there was one more thing I needed to address. The fact that ASEA is structured as a multi-level marketing company – a network marketing business model often associated with sham products, shady business practices, disingenuous sales tactics and improbable promises of wealth to naive sales associates. If there was anything I did not want to be involved with, it was a shady business; and MLM’s don’t exactly have the best reputation. My guard was up. However I spent several hours with the management team, including CEO Verdis Norton and left with a few key insights. First, ASEA is essentially a family run business. Verdis’ team includes his two sons Jon and Tyler, as well as his daughter Nancy – all people I have come to respect and hold in high regard, not just for their business acumen, but as human beings. Second, it is an enterprise in which ethics and morals are not just given lip service, but are the very foundation of their corporate culture. I honestly believe their primary goal is to help people by improving health and empowering the individual. To be certain, ASEA is a business for profit. But I know that there is a much higher purpose at play that motivates the Nortons far beyond the promise of a dollar.

Over the last year, I have been approached by many nutrition and supplement companies seeking my endorsement. Each and every time I have said no. Usually because the products just simply don’t live up to their purported benefits. I can’t in good conscience promote a message of optimal wellness and endorse a product that contains chemicals, preservatives, GMOS’s or synthetic sugars, even if it is technically “vegan” or tied to some evidence of short-term performance benefit. And quite frankly, I didn’t want to feel obligated to promote something – I’d rather choose the foods and nutrition that suit me, and freely share my objective perspective with whoever is interested without the tether of obligation. But with ASEA I believe I have found a product I can stand behind 100%. For these reasons, I feel I can wholeheartedly and proudly endorse this product – my first formal endorsement of a nutritional product as an athlete.”

ASEA Athlete: Sinjin Smith

Former Gold Medal Volleyball player Sinjin Smith uses Asea daily for optimal performance, physical recovery after workouts, and overall health and wellness.

My name is Sinjin Smith I am a Beach Volleyball World Champion and Olympian and commentator now. I run camps and clinics for kids up and down the California coast and all over the country. I really have not been able to get away from the sport of beach volleyball.

Beach volleyball you know is a very difficult sport. You are out here trying to move around in the sand, which is not very forgiving. Well it is to some degree because if you fall your not going to get hurt but trying to go anywhere is very difficult trying to jump is very difficult. You are covering a large course, a course that six people would cover indoors. The sport of beach volleyball can be a very very difficult sport.

I have been searching my whole career, 25 years, for a product that would help me perform. That was obviously legal as well because I was playing internationally and I have played in the Olympic games. This was something that I was very skeptical about. So I said ok I want to try this and see how it affects me. If they tests they have already done are so successful what would happen if I tested on myself? Even though I am not the athlete that I was 10, 15, 20 years ago. Still I know what it is like when I push myself today and how it feels.

So I ran the stairs up in the canyon. I know I can do a certain number of times and I know the way I feel afterwards. So I did it, then I ran a few more. I felt pretty good. So I said ok, if I feel that good I am going to push myself even harder and see how things go. I ran a few more sets and I come down and normally my legs are shaking and they weren’t shaking. I thought well that’s odd, I will just wait until tomorrow because the next day I can barely walk, normally when I do that kind of a workout.

The next day I felt pretty good. I wasn’t limping around when I walked, I was feeling pretty darn good. That’s when I knew this product is very special. The claims they have been making and the tests they have doing were real!

So ever since then I have been telling all my friends and athletes and people about the product because I have never seen anything like it. I want to be able to do things as closely as the way I used to do them years ago. The only way I have been able to do that is through this product.

It has allowed me to train harder, recover better and have better overall health. So even though my career is long over I still receive these benefits.

Why ASEA for Athletes?

To competitive athletes who consistently push their bodies to the limit to outperform the competition and themselves, ASEA is the world’s first and only stable bio-active solution that increases your maximum aerobic capacity and speeds cellular healing through the power of Redox Signaling, providing the fuel of athletic performance and accelerated recovery.

ASEA, like no other drink, powder, pill, or supplement, will fuel your performance and accelerate your recovery.  The science is real, the product is science.

How does it do this?

You’ve got about 75 trillion cells in your body, and when you’re training or competing, nearly all of them are engaged…blood cells, muscle cells, brain cells, heart cells.  And every single one of those cells requires special little molecules to work at peak efficiency.  Scientists call them “Redox Signaling” molecules.

Redox Signaling molecules are so critical to cell function that your cells go ahead and make their own supply.  These amazing little molecules are first manufactured by your cells, and then later used by those same cells to do their jobs efficiently, whether that job is to power your muscles, pump more blood, facilitate the oxygen-exchange process, or rid your tissues of muscle-stiffening lactic acid.

Your body makes its own supply, but if you want to find a way to improve the performance, endurance, and recovery – to help your muscle cells, blood cells, heart cells, and brain cells work more efficiently – you need to look beyond what your own cells can do.  Because everyone else has cells that are doing the same things yours are doing to a lesser or greater extent depending on their own personal health and fitness.  If you want that kind of improvement, the kind that will give you an edge, you will need an outside source of Redox Signaling molecules.  ASEA is the only source of perfectly balanced Redox Signaling molecules to be found outside living cells, such as those of the human body.

THE ONLY SOURCE.

  • ASEA is clinically proven, completely free of banned substances, and 100% safe.
  • It’s all about Power, Endurance, and Recovery.  No other product in the world uses the body’s own native, natural process to maximize all three.
  • Athletes who drink ASEA have a tremendous competitive advantage over those who don’t.
  • ASEA athletes are finding they can go farther, faster, longer without redlining their heart rate and going into critical oxygen debt.

ASEA: Performance Enhancement that is legal, ethical, and healthy.

See the studies and testing – The numbers are shocking.

ASEA Athlete ~ Jonathan Hollar

My name is Jonathan Hollar. I am from Orlando Florida. I am an endurance Athlete.

An Olympic Duathalon is usually 6.2 mile run, a 25 mile bike ride and 3.1 mile run. I before was doing that in around two hours and forty minutes, now with ASEA I have done that in 2:08.

I am able now to bike faster than ever. I have made up 10-15 minutes on the bike. If I am going to run I am now down to 5:35 pace in the miles. It is just unbelievable.

My last experience in triathlon last season I did 8-10 triathlons over the whole season. That is all I have ever done in my whole life. 92 to 93% of my max heart rate is all I had in me in a triathlon. Now I am noticing in training I am coming home my heart rate monitor is telling me that 101% was reached, 106% sometimes!

In a race now I bring my heart rate up to 98% and I hold it the hold race. I can hold that for 3-4 hours now.

A few weeks into taking ASEA I noticed that I would do a workout and usually I would be done. Now I am doing workout and I am getting back my legs at 10pm and doing a workout instead of going to sleep.

I am actually recovering a lot faster. I am working out two maybe even three times a day, six days a week. My Performance is through the roof. I am able to train harder, longer and faster because of ASEA.

ASEA Athlete ~ Tim Leary

My name is Tim Leary, I grew up here in Santa Monica, California, Played pro baseball for 15 years, 13 years in the Major Leagues as a Right Hand Pitcher. Mostly as a starting pitcher. Won a World Series with the Dodgers in 1998.

Sinjin Smith talked to me about ASEA. I started using it, usually about twice per day. Early on I noticed when I went to work out at the YMCA and I rode the bike for a little longer than normal. I was feeling great, training harder than I had been. I wasn’t thinking about ASEA at the time, but when I came home I was like, well it could be.

Now within the last month I have noticed quite a nice recovery in my body. My flexibility has improved, my endurance has improved. I take ASEA two or three times per day now and I can physically feel the differences. It’s great!

If you could just drink four ounces of a product two or three times per day and feel better why wouldn’t you do it? So I’m on it. I have tried everything else, and this seems to be the X factor of helping me stay limber. I think I can challenge my body and be excited about staying physically active as I age.

ASEA Associate Climbs Everest

Many ASEA Associates look for adventure in life, but perhaps one of the most adventurous is Director Laurie Bagley. Laurie was a member of a top ten world-class adventure racing team for years until she took a break to successfully scale Mt. Everest!

Now Laurie has taken the lessons she learned in preparing for, training for, and successfully conquering the highest mountain in the world and put them in a book:* Summit! One Woman’s Mount Everest Climb Guides You to Success.

As Laurie says, “Success is deliberate. My book offers a step-by-step formula designed to help people attain whatever level of success they are looking for in building a business.

Laurie Bagley has been taking ASEA for nearly a year and has experienced amazing results. Her amazing experience climbing Everest is sure to be a motivator for anyone who reads it. Here is a summary of Laurie’s book:

Laurie Bagley has faced and overcome numerous challenges in finding success. In her book, she points out that with every big vision there will also be adversity.

Through attaining her many accomplishments, she learned the importance of managing her time, energy, and resources in working toward her goals. One doesn’t just climb Mount Everest without putting in the effort it takes to make success deliberate rather than coincidental.

The same can be said of building your ASEA business. While “keeping your eye on the prize” is important, Laurie stresses seeing and enjoying the entire process it takes to get there. This inspiring book will help you set and meet your goals, drawing from Laurie’s powerful perspective for actualizing great endeavors.

Laurie says, “ASEA will be a part of my health and wellness program for life. I recover from workouts faster and more fully. And as a fitness coach, I absolutely recommend ASEA to my clients!”

International Olympic Committee Surprise; Food Supplements can Enhance Athletic Performance.

Food supplements can boost athletic performance, according to new advice from the International Olympic Committee (IOC) that marks an about face from earlier positions.

The Swiss organisation said, “a very small number may enhance performance for some athletes” but did not go into specifics about what those supplements might be. Earlier advice from the IOC had warned athletes off food supplements as groups like the US Anti-Doping Agency do.

It said supplements must be, “used in accordance with current evidence under the guidance of a well-informed professional.”

“Athletes contemplating the use of supplements and sports foods should consider their efficacy, their cost, the risk to health and performance, and the potential for a positive doping test. Supplement use in young athletes should be discouraged, and the focus should be on consuming a nutrient-rich, well-chosen diet to allow for growth while maintaining a healthy body composition.”

The Olympic body added that supplementation does not compensate for, “poor food choices and an inadequate diet”.

“…but supplements that provide essential nutrients may be a short-term option when food intake or food choices are restricted due to travel or other factors.”

Read more on the IOC’s recommendations here.

ASEA is putting its product through rigorous testing and research to prove it has a tremendous impact on performance for athletes. Studies to date show the redox signaling molecules in ASEA are able power up aerobic performance.

ASEA Athlete Sets Ironman 70.3 Record!

Ironman 70.3 World Record HolderAt the beginning of 2010, James Lawrence had a goal: to break the world record of number of Half Ironman Triathlons (called “Ironman 70.3” in the athletic world) in one year. When he contacted the Guiness World Record folks, they informed him that the old record was 16, but that to be extra sure, they would only accept a new record of 20 or higher.

To understand what that means, consider this: an Ironman 70.3 consists of a 1.2-mile swim, followed by a 56-mile bike ride, followed by a 13.1-mile run. To complete 20 of these in a year would mean that James would have to finish one every two and a half weeks!

So did James break the old record and hit the magic number of 20? No! He actually completed 22 Ironman 70.3 races! And he did it in just 30 weeks, meaning he averaged one race every nine and a half days!

And what role did ASEA play in helping James shatter the old record? “ASEA was definitely instrumental in my recovery,” he says, “giving me every advantage I needed to break this record. I was scared to go off it while attempting this quest!”

James capped his amazing new record by competing in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in Clearwater, Florida in November.

Triathlete Cindy Lampee on Asea

I am Cindy Lampee and I am a stay at home mom. I have been a runner for about eighteen years. Just recently I got into triathlons after running four marathons in just under two years.

After four weeks of being on ASEA I ran a 10k and I had a personal record and I had a negative split. Which means that I ran the second half faster than the first half. Which was something I had been trying to achieve for two years and had been unable to accomplish.

The next race was two weeks later and it was a 10 mile race. I also set a personal record and I knocked 14 minutes off a previous 10 mile race that I had just run 3 months earlier.

I run with a group and I have noticed that during my runs after two or three miles of warming up that I am getting faster and I feel stronger and I end up running ahead of the group and I finish before the group.

My recovery time is quicker. Recovery, for a busy mom is very important because I can’t rest after a long run. I have children to take care of and I have to keep going. As an athlete it is important because you have your runs and your trainings the next day, your bike rides are slim. It just makes you stronger for the next workout.

I can not imagine training without ASEA. I take it before every training run and before every race I have ASEA with me and I will drink 4 to 6 ounces about 20 minutes before the race.

I will never run without ASEA again!

The Cycling World is getting turned on to ASEA.

The dominoes are beginning to fall as the word about Asea and what it is doing for athletes spreads.  The cycling world seems to have taken the lead in adopting this product.  Cyclists at all competitive levels are seeing dramatic increases in their endurance, performance, recovery, and most importantly their race times!

Richard Cunningham, Technical Editor for Road Bike Action Magazine recently agreed to conduct his own independent, unpaid review of ASEA with the conditions that if his results were not favorable he would publish those results. The independent ASEA associate who asked Richard to try it out didn’t flinch. If you are a subscriber to Road Bike Action Magazine your copy of Richard’s review is in the current issue. Please head over to your nearest news stand and get a copy of the July issue of Road Bike Action Magazine and patronize them for the full article.   Or click Road Bike Action July 2010 to download the article.

Here are some excerpts:

“So, the ASEA folks spent some bucks for some independent tests on endurance athletes and discovered that athletes, on average, could push 10 percent longer at their maximum thresholds with high results in the 30-percent range and lows around 7 percent. After testing this stuff for three months, I’d have to agree with them. We could pedal harder and longer and recover from repeated, 100-percent efforts in ridiculously short intervals. The word “recovery” is the operate in the ASEA equation”

“Initially, people drink 6 ounces and wait for some chemical “kick,” like how a super-caffeinated coke hits you when you are on the ropes. Instead, ASEA quietly powers up the muscles, dramatically reducing recovery time after over-the-top efforts, and it enables you to push precariously close to the anaerobic threshold for prolonged periods of time. Typically, a cyclist can recover from three, perhaps four all-out efforts over the course of an event. Any more than that, and the athlete’s overall performance will be cut short and every subsequent effort will be painful. Typically, ASEA users can go hard over and over again and count on a full recovery within a few minutes. In addition, it is possible to push harder on the pedals for extended periods without going anaerobic. Most climbs can be ridden at least on gear higher, with some users busting out climbs in the next larger chainring.”

“ASEA doesn’t seem to improve your peak strength. If you can’t get over a particular hill in your big chainring today, six gulps of ASEA won’t power you over the mountain tomorrow. You still have to train to get stronger. ASEA will help you maintain your existing strength over a longer period of time. For Instance: if you could push the middle chainring up a 16-percent grade during the first 30 minutes of a ride, two hours later-when most riders would be clicking into the granny gear before a big climb-you could probably repeat that performance”

Another respected and highly regarded online cycling publication recently reviewed Asea for its readers.  Bicycle.net editor Jonathan Tessler did a similar test and review of Asea with similarly glowing remarks.  You can see the review in its entirety by CLICKING HERE.  Or you can download a transcript here.

It’s important to note these comments are an independent review of well respected magazine and website editors who were not compensated for the tests. We owe a debt of thanks to Mr. Cunningham and the editors of Bicycle.net for lending increased credibility to the Asea story and everything we’ve been telling you about on this blog.

If you are an Athlete and you are not paying attention to ASEA you are putting yourself at a competitive disadvantage when you go up against those who are using this product!

If you are an entrepreneur and you have not been introduced to ASEA as a business opportunity, may we respectfully encourage you to investigate.  The timing could not be better.

Asea is a name you are going to keep hearing about.  Don’t wait until its become common knowledge to look into it.  Do it while its still a relative unknown and be among the first to reap the benefits.
